Legal Basis & Deadlines
EU Regulation (EU) 2024/573 – HFC Phase-Down
The F-Gas Regulation stipulates that hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) may only be produced or imported with corresponding quotas. The total available quantity is reduced annually according to a defined phase-down schedule.
Important: Without adequate quota coverage, import or production of HFC gases is prohibited. Violations result in fines up to €50,000.
Quota-Obligated Companies
- HFC producers in the EU
- HFC importers (in bulk form)
- Importers of pre-filled equipment
- Placing on market of certain products
Important Dates & Deadlines
- 31 October: Quota application (previous year)
- 31 March: Quota allocation by EU
- Anytime: Quota transfer possible
- 31 March: Annual report (following year)
Phase-Down Schedule: Decreasing Quota Quantities
The total available HFC quantity decreases annually according to the EU phase-down plan. This leads to rising quota prices and reduced availability.
💡 Our Advantage: Through our own quota stock, we can guarantee you rapid availability even during market shortages.
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the most important questions about F-Gas quotas and quota management
What are F-Gas quotas and who needs them?
F-Gas quotas are officially allocated quantities (in CO₂ equivalents) that authorise the production or importation of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) in the EU. All companies that import HFC gases in bulk form, produce HFCs, or import pre-filled equipment/products require quotas. Without sufficient quota coverage, import/production is illegal and results in fines up to €50,000.
How can I obtain F-Gas quotas for my company?
We provide HFC quotas from our own stock and handle complete authorisation in the EU F-Gas Portal. Alternatively, we support you with EU quota applications to the Commission (deadline: 31 October of previous year, allocation by 31 March). We manage needs calculation, quota provision and portal transfer.
What does the F-Gas quota service cost?
Costs comprise the quota price and our service fee for provision, management and authorisation. We provide a transparent fixed-price quote based on your annual requirements. Through strategic planning and professional processing, we minimise your total costs.
How quickly can I receive quotas?
Quotas from our stock are authorised in the EU F-Gas Portal within 1-3 working days after payment receipt and ready for your imports/production. For EU applications, statutory deadlines apply: application by 31 October, allocation by 31 March of the following year.
What happens if my quotas are insufficient?
Without adequate quota coverage, you cannot conduct HFC imports – your shipments will be blocked at customs. Violations result in fines up to €50,000 and potential criminal consequences. We continuously monitor your quota consumption and warn you in advance of shortages, ensuring you always have sufficient quotas.
